Another of the many unnamed falls on the Grasse River, this one is
known locally as Birch Falls. It is almost exactly one mile
out the Pestle Road from the intersection of CR 24 in the hamlet.
There is a small island at this point and there are falls on both
sides of the island.
From Pestle Road, you can not view the falls from below.
You are able to see over the top of both of the falls. Also,
please note that once you are off the highway, you are on private
property. Please respect the landowner's rights.
However, if you were to travel from the hamlet on CR 17 on the
other side of the river, you will get a much better view.
Again, about one mile from the intersection of CR 24 and CR 17,
you will be below the falls and will see both sides of the island.
The Grasse River flows into the St. Lawrence River in Massena,
in St. Lawrence County.
Note: Depending upon which map or sign you are using,
this river is referred to as both Grasse and Grass.
Keith Ziemba contributed the winter views of these falls.
