Buttermilk Falls

Buttermilk FallsAt the back of the parking lot, you will be facing a cement block pool house.  Walk left across the front of the bath house and and turn right before the pavilion building to the back where there is a little playground behind the pool.  There are actually a couple of trails leading to the falls, but the most direct route is to continue walking past the left side of the playground.  The opening of the trail may not be obvious in the trees, but bear slightly right at the back of the playground, without walking behind it.

If you miss this opening, it really isn't an issue.  Continue across behind the playground to the creek and follow it upstream.  You can actually reach the water at the base of the falls, but it will require a moderate rock-hop across the creek.

This is a very nice waterfall.  It is a quick series of steps at the very top before breaking over a ledge into pretty much of a free-fall.  It is an estimated 40', maybe taller.   At the base is a small pool which you can actually reach.  You can get so close to this one, you could actually take a shower in it!  The creek is very narrow below the falls and there are several spots where you can cross without getting wet.

Although the common name of this waterfall is Buttermilk, our research has indicated that some locally refer to it simply as Milk Falls.

This unnamed waterway flows through the city of Little Falls and into the Mohawk River, which then flows into the Hudson before reaching the Atlantic Ocean.
