This is a series of 10 waterfalls on Big Hollow
Branch over a hike of about 3.5 miles with 1,000
feet of elevation. The first 4 falls are east
to reach. Falls 5-9 are off trail and are in a
steep gorge, requiring a good amount of effort
to get to them. The brook is never too far from
Big Hollow Road but there are times during the
upper portion of the hike where it would be
difficult to get up to the road as the
mountainside leading to the road is very steep,
so if you decide to tackle 5-9, please make sure
you are prepared.
To get to Falls #1,
walk through the tunnel and follow the road as
it bends to the left. At 0.2 miles from where
you parked, the road will take a sharp right.
Do not take the right hand turn, rather,
continue straight through a small parking area,
following any one of a few paths toward the
sound of the water, just about 30 yards from the
road. The Adirondack Northway will be on your
left and you will be able to hear and see the
cars passing by. You will see Falls #1 and can
scramble down to the side of the brook for some
good photo opportunities.
Our thanks to Gary Dilmore for the photos and
information on this location.
Big Hollow Branch enters the English Brook at the north end of
the village of Lake George. This flows into Lake George,
which, in turn,
flows through La Chute into Lake Champlain. The flow then goes
north through Canada on the Richelieu River and empties into the
St. Lawrence River.Last update: November 3, 2026
