As mentioned in the write up for Falls #1,
if you decide to continue on to falls 6
through 10,
you will need to go off trail, into a very
steep gorge. While you are never more than
100 yards from the road, you will be very
isolated at times and the trek will include
a lot of brook crossings, working around the
landscape and working through some downfall.
Experience info trail hiking is a must for
this part of the adventure.
I hiked
this twice, two days apart. The first time
I stayed in the gorge, along the brook the
entire way. The second time, after Falls
#5, I went up to the road, then went down to
see falls 6 and 7, returned to the road
again, then went down to the gorge for falls
8, 9 and 10. My recommendation for your
first visit would be to stay in the gorge
the entire time.
With that in mind,
from Falls #5, climb up the embankment to
the access road and turn left to go up to
the pond at the top of the dam. At the far
end of the pond work through the brush to
get back along side the brook and work your
way upstream on river left, the right side
facing upstream.
It took me about 20
minutes to get to Falls #6. Along the way I
crossed over to river right because the
river left side was too steep to navigate.
After crossing over, the landscape took me
a little wide to the left. I came to a
small tributary on a hillside that was
nearly dry. I followed that tributary to the
right, downstream which brought me back to
Big Hollow Branch and to the base of Falls
#6, a 12' drop.
Our thanks to Gary Dilmore for the photos and
information on this location.
Big Hollow Branch enters the English Brook at the north end of
the village of Lake George. This flows into Lake George,
which, in turn,
flows through La Chute into Lake Champlain. The flow then goes
north through Canada on the Richelieu River and empties into the
St. Lawrence River.Last update: November 4, 2026
