| Directions
From the north end of Lake George Village, drive
north on Route 9 toward Warrensburg ... do not take
9N north toward Bolton Landing. Drive for 3.4 miles
then turn left onto Sommerville Road. After a few
hundred feet the road will turn to dirt as you pass
a driveway to a house on the right. Continue
on the dirt road for another few hundred feet, past
a driveway to a garage. There will be a small
grassy pullover on the right side, large enough for
2-3 cars. Park here.

English Brook in Lake George has three
small waterfalls that are an easy hike
along Sommerville Road. I believe
Sommerville Road is a public road.
There are no signs saying it is private
until you go about a quarter mile past
the last waterfall where there is a gate
across the road with signage that it is
a private road beyond the gate.
That being said, the land on both
sides of Sommerville Road is heavily
posted as private. The good news is that
the waterfalls are roadside so you don't
need to leave the road to view them.
Please honor the rights of the
landowners and stay on the public road.
Hike up Sommerville Road, which is a
fairly rugged road, but easy to hike.
It is a fairly steady incline on the
way out, but nothing real steep. You
will have a view of English Brook most
of the way, but be mindful of the no
trespassing signs that will start about
a third of a mile up the road from where
you parked. At 0.6 miles you will reach
the Lower Falls on your left, just
before the stream crosses under the road
through a culvert. The lower falls is
posted on both sides of the brook. Your
view from the road is limited so we did
have to cross the brook and work our way
down a short distance to get into
position to take these photos.
Our thanks to Gary Dilmore for the photos and
information on this location.
English Brook is at the north end of
the village of Lake George. This flows into Lake George,
which, in turn,
flows through La Chute into Lake Champlain. The flow then goes
north through Canada on the Richelieu River and empties into the
St. Lawrence River.Last update: November 4, 2026
