From SRB Upper Falls #4, continue upstream about 100 yards
until you reach a trail crossing. This is the Shelving
Rock Mountain Trail. Cross directly over the trail making
sure that you are on the right side of Shelving Rock Brook,
facing upstream, and enter the woods. A very short
distance in, you will come across a trail that goes along
side the brook which will make it very easy to navigate.
The trail has yellow medallion markers. If you are an All
Trails user, please note that neither the trail or the brook
will show up on their map. If you look at Google Maps you
will see the trail which is referenced as the Longway Trail
as well as the brook, although eventually the brook ends on
Google maps after you reach Upper Falls #7. To get to Upper
Falls #5, follow the trail for 0.4 mile and you will see the
falls on your left. There are some small, very picturesque
water features along the way for you to enjoy.
Shelving Rock Brook empties into Lake George. The water
from this then flows through La Chute into Lake Champlain.
The flow then goes north through Canada on the Richelieu River and
empties into the St. Lawrence River.
Please note that the Shelving Rock Brook is
officially named but these tributaries and the falls on them are
unnamed. We have chosen these monikers to simplify the
cataloging of the waterfalls.
