Lake George Quadrangle

Alder Creek Falls #1This is the featured waterfall in the Lake George Recreation Area and is easy to reach from the parking lot.  Since it is the largest drop in this area and is the most popular one, we are referring to it simply as West Brook Falls.  We will also note that it is the third drop as you proceed upstream on this waterway.  It could also be referred to as West Brook Third Falls.

Please note that as you hike to this waterfall, you will pass West Brook First and Second Falls.  There is a slight deviation from this trail to visit that location.  That route is detailed in the page for West Brook First Falls.

If you did go to those sites, turn right as you return to the main trail.  You will be at a point on the trail where it takes a left turn, as described in the entry for First Falls.  Continue down the hill on the main trail for about 100 yards.  You will see a lean-to set up like an outdoor classroom.  Stay to the right of the lean-to and you'll see West Brook Falls in front of you.

If you skip the lower falls and go directly to West Brook Falls, it is 1/4 mile from the parking lot.

West Brook Falls is approximately 25' tall and has several unique features so take your time viewing it.  The trail continues up the river right side of the waterfall and parallels West Brook for the next 3/4 mile.

Our thanks to Gary Dilmore for the photos and information on this location.

West Brook empties into Lake George.  The water from this then flows through La Chute into Lake Champlain.  The flow then goes north through Canada on the Richelieu River and empties into the St. Lawrence River.
