This series of 4 waterfalls are on a
tributary to West Brook and is an
off-trail adventure. Please do not
attempt this hike unless you are
experienced in hiking off trail and make
sure you have a GPS map available, like
AllTrails. You will need it in
order to get back to the trail after the
fourth waterfall. This tributary does
not show up on any of the maps I have. I
knew it was there because I had seen it
on a prior hike. I studied a topo map
and had a pretty good idea where it went
and that there would probably be some
waterfalls, so I decided to hike it to
find out.
This is a very remote
location, you will likely see no one
else until you get back to the trail
near the top of the mountain. The first
2 waterfalls are fairly easy to get to,
however, to reach the third and fourth
falls require a very steep ascent up the
mountainside.
There is a
bailout option after waterfall #2 which
I will explain on the write up for that
falls. Finally, when I hiked this on
August 28, 2026 water levels were low,
as you will see in the photos. I do
plan to go back next spring in hopes
that the water will be running better.
If you are going to hike to this series
for 4 waterfalls, you might as well
visit the five waterfalls below them on
West Brook, because you're going to walk
right by them anyway. With that in
mind, I am going to give directions
based on starting at West Brook Fifth
Falls.
From the top of West Brook Fifth Falls,
the Blue Medallion Trail that goes up to
the top of Prospect Mountain takes a
sharp right turn right at the confluence
of West Brook and the West Brook
Tributary that you will be following.
West Brook comes in from the left.
You want the tributary which is in
between West Brook and the trail to
Prospect Mountain.
I crossed the
tributary and started walking up the
river right side, your left as you are
facing upstream. I passed by a long
slide that would probably be a nice
waterfall had there been more water,
we'll see next spring. About 8 minutes
after leaving West Brook Fifth Falls, I
arrived at West Brook Tributary Falls
#1, a 6' drop over a few ledges.
