Black River Village Falls is another one of those waterfalls that has been a power dam for many years.  It shouldn't be confused with the Black River Falls.  We have given it this name simply because it is on the Black River within the village of Black River.  Black River Falls, on the other hand, is a named waterfall.  Also on the Black River, it is a few miles downstream within the city of Watertown.  That one is also known as Watertown Falls and Great Falls.

This waterfall is a small one.  Consisting of four or five steps, it is located in the north channel of the river as it goes around an island at that point.  It is easily viewed from the bridge downtown or from just around the corner in the park across from the American Legion building.  A retaining dam is located in the other channel, part of the hydro facility at this location.

The Black River empties into Lake Ontario at the Black River Bay, just southwest of the village of Dexter.
