One of several sections of waterfalls or rapids on the lower part
of the Moose River, this site is just upstream from the
intersection of the Lowdale and Lyonsdale Roads. It can be
seen from the parking lot of the Burrow's Paper Company or from a
one-lane bridge on the Lowdale Road that crosses the river there.
To get to here, travel NYSR 12 to Lyons Falls. Find
the bridge crossing the Black River and continue. Lowdale
Road is just after the paper mill on your left. This set of
falls undoubtedly gets its name from the fact that it drops in
two-steps, hence Double Drop.
This stretch of the river is very popular with the kayak
community.
The Moose River flows into the Black River just a few miles
downstream from this location in Lyons Falls. The Black
empties into Lake Ontario in the Jefferson County community of
Dexter.
