The location at Union Falls is now an operating hydro-electric
facility run by National Grid, but there is still a waterfall
below it and you have unobstructed views of it from the highway
and bridge.
The dam above the falls is about ten feet high. To its
right is a wooden structure that might be an operator's
station. The waterfall is formed at the bottom of the dam
where the water flows through and over a rocky, craggy
outcrop. The channel below the falls is narrow and makes a
gentle bend to river-right where it flows under the bridge.
There are a couple of steps on the down-river side of the bridge
and there is another portion of the hydro facility off to the left
in that area.
The Saranac River flows into Lake Champlain in Plattsburgh.
