Ohio Quadrangle

High FallsAlthough not officially named, this very pretty "C" shaped waterfall is known commonly as High Falls.  In fact, there is a plaque mounted on a rock at the location indicating the "Scenic High Falls Bridge."

Your views of this waterfall are clear and relatively unobstructed, but it is a bit of a challenge for pictures because of the high, chain-link fence that is attached to the sides of the bridge.  We can only assume that they have been placed there to deter people jumping into the water below.  It is a significant drop into water that isn't very deep so this type of activity probably wouldn't end well.

There is an interesting side note in regard to the mapping of this location.  Rivers and streams are often used as municipal boundaries, so it is common to find waterfalls that span county or town lines.  In this case, the waterfall appears to span the border of the topographical quadrangle.  We have indicated that it is in the Ohio quadrangle because the bridge is, but the waterfall itself is right on the edge of the Morehouseville quadrangle.  This is undoubtedly not a very significant issue, but it is the only time we have encountered it with any of the waterfalls listed on this website.

West Canada Creek flows through Hinckley Reservoir and then empties into the Mohawk River at Herkimer.  This flows to the Hudson River which empties into the Atlantic Ocean in New York City.
